John Kayongo is an African Ethnologist, with a Bachelor degree in Performing Arts from the School of New Dance Development in Amsterdam. John owns Studio LionPaw which provides African dance classes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening in Utrecht. He also facilitates African Dance Workshops at schools, companies, festivals, cultural institutions, private events and organises cultural trips to Uganda and Senegal.
“Dance keep me connected with my body and myself. I teach dance and try to get the participants also to get in touch with their bodies. In African Dance I use the African Philosophy of ‘Ubuntu’, ( togetherness ). In my workshop and classes I emphasise on dancing together and uplifting one another through dance. An African quote I regularly use is: ‘We eat to feed our bodies, We dance to feed our Souls’.“
